sunto dell'intervista del presidente napolitano su kyodo:
Italian President Giorgio Napolitano said Friday he will be traveling
to Japan next week to see the change that recently took place in
Japanese politics at first hand.
The 84-year-old president, who
will be making his first visit to Japan, also said the country is a
''basic power in the world economy'' and that he hopes the new
government to be launched by the Democratic Party of Japan following
its landslide election victory will spur the Japanese economy, which in
turn ''will help the world get out of the economic crisis.''
Napolitano
made the remarks in an interview with Kyodo News and other media
organizations prior to his four-day visit to Tokyo beginning Wednesday,
when DPJ President Yukio Hatoyama will be elected prime minister in the
Diet.
Napolitano, Italy's first president from the Communist
Party, also expressed regret about claims by a number of Japanese
tourists that they have been charged inflated prices at restaurants and
shops in Rome and Milan.
Those cases ''do not reflect the reality that (Italy) is a nation of tourism and hospitality,'' he said.
The
president is scheduled to hold talks with Hatoyama on Friday.
Napolitano suggested he will tell the new Japanese prime minister about
the importance of cooperation between Japan and other Asian countries,
based on Europe's experience with the European Union.
He is also slated to see an Italian opera together with Japanese Emperor Akihito during his stay until Saturday.
The
Italian president is head of state and the post is politically
powerful, carrying with it the right to dissolve parliament, appoint
the prime minister, veto bills and command the country's military.
